You Don’t Need to Be a Professional Writer to Share Your Testimony

For a long time, I believed writing a book was something reserved for “real writers.”

You know… people with degrees, perfect grammar, polished lives, and a clear roadmap for what they wanted to say.

Not people like me.

Not people with messy stories. Not people still healing. Not people who didn’t grow up in church or surrounded by publishing and ministry circles.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something important:

God has never been limited to using polished people.

Throughout Scripture, He consistently chose ordinary people with complicated histories to carry extraordinary messages. People who doubted themselves. People who felt unqualified. People who probably assumed someone else would be a better fit for the assignment.

Yet God still used their stories.

And I think a lot of us are carrying stories we’ve convinced ourselves are too broken, too unfinished, or too insignificant to matter.

The truth is, some of the most impactful testimonies are the ones that feel the most honest.

Not the polished version.

Not the version cleaned up for appearances.

The real version.

The version where God met you in grief.

In addiction.

In confusion. In trauma.

In failure. In rebuilding.

In surrender.

People connect with honesty because honesty reminds them they are not alone.

One of the most common messages I receive is from people who say something like:

"I think God wants me to share my story… but I have no idea where to start.”

And honestly, I understand that feeling deeply.

Writing about your life can feel incredibly vulnerable. Even when you know God has brought you through something powerful, turning that experience into words can feel overwhelming. There’s this pressure people put on themselves to suddenly become an expert writer overnight.

But sharing your testimony isn’t about becoming perfect. It’s about becoming willing.

Willing to be honest. Willing to reflect. Willing to let God use your experiences for something bigger than yourself.

That’s a huge part of why I created the Own Your Story Publishing Experience.

Not because I think everyone needs to become a bestselling author, but because I know how many people are sitting on stories that could genuinely encourage someone else if they just had guidance and support along the way.

Some people need help organizing their thoughts. Some need encouragement to stop doubting themselves. Some need practical publishing guidance. Some simply need someone to say: "You can do this.”

And maybe that sounds small, but sometimes permission changes everything.

I also know there are many people who feel intimidated by Christian spaces because they didn’t grow up deeply rooted in church culture. I understand what it feels like to walk into faith feeling like everyone else already knows the language, the expectations, and the rules.

That’s why beginner-friendly matters so much to me.

You should not need a theology degree to begin sharing what God has done in your life.

You do not need to sound polished. You do not need to know every publishing term. You do not need to have your entire story figured out before you begin.

Sometimes obedience simply starts with taking the first step.

And sometimes that first step looks like finally admitting:

"I think God wants me to stop hiding this.”

Your story matters because what God has done matters.

There are people who may never step foot inside a church building but might read a story that points them toward hope. There are people silently struggling with things you’ve already survived. There are people praying for confirmation that God still sees them in the middle of their pain.

We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

That testimony has value.

Not because we are trying to build platforms or chase attention, but because redemption deserves to be remembered. Because healing deserves to be shared. Because sometimes God uses ordinary people willing to speak honestly to help someone else believe healing is possible for them too.

If you’ve been carrying the desire to write your story, share your testimony, or finally begin the book God has placed on your heart, I want you to know something:

You do not have to have everything figured out before you begin.

You just have to be willing to start.
