When God Changes Your Plans: Finding Identity, Healing, and Hope in Christ

Have you ever looked at your life and wondered why God allowed things to unfold so differently than you expected?

Many Christians struggle with disappointment when their plans, dreams, or expectations don't align with reality. We pray, trust, and seek God's direction, yet we still encounter seasons of loss, heartbreak, trauma, and uncertainty. In those moments, it's easy to question God's goodness, His timing, or even His presence.

In a recent episode of the Rybickulous Faith Podcast, ordained chaplain, author, and Christian Life & Legacy Coach Krystina Dixon shared her powerful testimony of learning to trust God through life's hardest seasons. Her story reminds us that faith is not about avoiding pain—it's about discovering God's presence within it.

When Life Doesn't Go According to Plan

One of the most challenging aspects of the Christian walk is surrendering our expectations.

We often create a picture of how our lives should unfold. We envision relationships, careers, ministries, and futures that make sense to us. But sometimes God allows circumstances that completely disrupt those plans.

Krystina shared how following Christ came with a cost. There were seasons marked by heartbreak, loss, and difficult decisions. Yet it was through those experiences that she learned a deeper truth: obedience isn't always comfortable, but it always leads us closer to God.

The Christian life was never promised to be easy. Jesus Himself said:

"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

Faith is not proven when everything is going well. Faith is revealed when we continue trusting God when nothing makes sense.

From Victim to Daughter of the King

One of the most powerful themes from our conversation was identity.

Many people unknowingly build their identity around past wounds, failures, titles, achievements, or relationships. When those things are taken away, they feel lost.

But Scripture teaches that our identity is not found in what happened to us. It is found in who God says we are.

Through her journey, Krystina learned to move from seeing herself through the lens of pain to embracing her identity as a daughter of the King.

This shift changes everything.

When we understand who we are in Christ, we stop living from our wounds and begin living from God's promises.

The Battle of the Mind

As a Christian Life & Legacy Coach, Krystina combines biblical truth with practical insights about how our minds work.

Many believers struggle with:

  • Fear

  • Perfectionism

  • People-pleasing

  • Self-sabotaging behaviors

  • Negative thought patterns

The enemy often attacks our minds before he attacks anything else.

That's why Scripture tells us:

"Take every thought captive to obey Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Renewing our minds is not a one-time event. It's a daily process of replacing lies with God's truth.

When we align our thoughts with Scripture, our emotions, decisions, and actions begin to follow.

God's Discipline Is Not Punishment

One misconception many Christians carry is believing that difficult seasons automatically mean God is angry with them.

But as Krystina shared, God's discipline and God's punishment are not the same thing.

A loving Father corrects His children because He cares about their growth.

Hebrews 12 reminds us that God's discipline is evidence of His love, not His rejection.

Sometimes the very season we want to escape is the season God is using to refine us, strengthen us, and prepare us for what comes next.

Real Hope for Difficult Seasons

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Krystina's testimony was her reminder that God never abandoned her.

The turning point wasn't when the pain ended.

The turning point was realizing that Jesus had been present all along.

That truth offers hope to anyone walking through a difficult season today.

If you're struggling with disappointment, grief, fear, or uncertainty, remember:

  • God has not forgotten you.

  • Your story is not over.

  • Your identity is secure in Christ.

  • Your pain is not wasted.

  • God's presence is greater than your circumstances.

Final Encouragement

Following God doesn't always lead where we expect. Sometimes obedience requires surrender. Sometimes faith requires waiting. Sometimes healing takes longer than we hoped.

But God remains faithful through it all.

No matter what season you're facing, hold tightly to the promise found in 2 Corinthians 4:8:

"We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."

That is the hope we have in Christ.
