Finding Freedom in Christ After Abuse: Diane Perez’s Story of Healing and Hope

There are some stories that remind us just how powerful God's redemption can be. Diane Perez's story is one of them.

On this week's episode of the Rybickulous Faith Podcast, Diane shares her journey from surviving 12 years of domestic violence to helping other women discover their worth, reclaim their identity, and find freedom through Jesus Christ.

Her story is not just about surviving abuse. It's about healing, restoration, and learning to see yourself the way God sees you.

The Hidden Reality of Abuse

Abuse is often more complicated than people realize.

Many wonder why someone stays in an abusive relationship. The truth is that fear, manipulation, shame, financial concerns, children, and emotional trauma can create chains that are difficult to break.

For many survivors, the abuse isn't always physical. Emotional wounds, controlling behavior, intimidation, and constant criticism can leave scars that last long after visible bruises fade.

Diane speaks openly about these realities and the challenges she faced while trying to navigate life in an abusive environment.

When God Begins the Healing Process

One of the most powerful themes from Diane's testimony is the importance of identity.

Abuse often convinces people they are worthless, unwanted, or incapable of living independently. Over time, those lies can become deeply rooted.

But God speaks a different truth.

Isaiah 62:3 says:

"You shall be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God."

For Diane, discovering her identity as a daughter of the King became a turning point in her healing journey.

Instead of viewing herself through the lens of her past, she began seeing herself through God's promises.

Don't Go Back to Egypt

One of the most memorable moments from our conversation was Diane's reminder:

"Don't go back to Egypt."

Just as God delivered the Israelites from slavery, He desires freedom for His children today.

Freedom can feel unfamiliar. Sometimes the temptation to return to old patterns, toxic relationships, or familiar pain can be strong.

But healing requires moving forward, trusting God with the next step, and believing that what lies ahead is greater than what was left behind.

Freedom Is Possible

If you are walking through a difficult season right now, Diane's story offers an important reminder:

  • Your past does not define you.

  • Your value does not come from another person's opinion.

  • God sees you.

  • God loves you.

  • Healing is possible.

  • Freedom is possible.

No matter how broken things may seem, God is able to restore what has been lost and lead you into a new season of hope.
